The Terre de Blues Festival

Terre de Blues

The Terre de Blues Festival in Marie-Galante is an annual musical event that takes place on the island of Marie-Galante, in Guadeloupe, in the Caribbean. It is one of the most popular festivals in the region, showcasing the richness of Caribbean music and culture. The Terre de Blues festival was created in 2000 with the initiative of Harry Selbonne then director of the Community of communes of Marie-Galante, and Camille Pélage, Director of the Tourist Office of Marie-Galante.

They then called upon Pierre-Edouard Décimus, founder of the group Kassav' and Eddy Compper to bring their know-how and effectively set up this great project on Marie-Galante. Initially called "Creole Blues", it becomes in 2005 the "Festival of Marie-Galante, Land of Blues", in order to put forward all the assets of the island. In 2016, the Guadeloupe region joined the project in order to support in partnership the Festival, the original idea being to want to link the 3 Saint-Louis cities (Saint-Louis in the United States where the Blue was born, Saint-Louis in Senegal and Saint-Louis of Marie-Galante) around the same musical project.

It is thus decided to invite an American artist of Blues, an African artist, a Jamaican artist, a Guadeloupean artist, a Martiniquean artist, an artist of the Caribbean and an artist of Marie-Galante. The Terre de Blues festival brings together local, regional and international artists to celebrate musical genres such as blues, reggae, jazz, zouk and other forms of traditional Caribbean music. Performances take place on several stages throughout the island, including beaches and historical sites, providing a unique atmosphere for spectators.

The festival also features a variety of cultural activities, such as art exhibits, dance workshops, local food tastings and guided tours of the island. Visitors have the opportunity to discover the natural beauty of Marie-Galante while immersing themselves in Caribbean music and culture.

The Terre de Blues festival usually takes place during the Pentecost weekend, attracting thousands of people each year. It is a festive and convivial occasion to celebrate the music, dance and cultural diversity of the region.
