Located at the eastern tip of Grande Terre in Guadeloupe, the Pointe des Châteaux is must-see. It is indeed the most visited site of the island. Attached to the commune of Saint-François, which is 11Km away, you will have to take the D118, the only road that leads to the end of this peninsula which runs along the sea. It feels like a unique place located at the end of the world. Once there, do not look for any castle, there is none. The origin of its name is simply in relation to the Capuchin nuns who in 1683 had made it their parish: La Paroisse des Châteaux.

The site has kept all its authenticity and its almost wild environment. You will have the impression of contemplating a painting by nature with a false air of Brittany. You will walk through small paths, such as customs paths. The fauna and the flora surround you. You will take a beautiful and large sandy beach before starting the small ascent of the mountain to arrive at the cross of Christ. You will be able to admire a 360° view on the surroundings. When the weather is good, you will be able to see Desirade, Petite Terre and Marie Galante.

A wonderful walk for nature lovers: the Morne Pavillon trail at the end of the peninsula. Walk along the beautiful beach, go up to the cross of Christ, continue the path on the cliffs, cross the Delgrat cove, continue on the rocky plateau and then go back up to the road.

Other hikes are accessible all along this beautiful and long Peninsula. To name a few : La Trace pointe à Cabrit, La Trace Anse à la Gourde, La Trace à l'Anse Tarare, La Trace des Salines.

Several parking lots are available to stop and watch the Panorama or come and settle down at a restaurant and enjoy the setting for lunch in one of the most beautiful places of Guadeloupe.

Location: Saint-François, Guadeloupe
